Eadred 16.refounding of Abingdon: Following Eadgifu 4's request, Eadred 16 decided to give Æthelwold 1 a place called Abingdon, where there had been a small monastery which had been neglecrted and forlorn. Eadred 16.restoration of Abingdon 1: King Eadred 16 restored the possessions of Abingdon 1 using as agent Æthelwold 1, whom he had installed as abbot. Æthelwold 1 was whisked away to the see of Winchester by the celebrated King Edgar 11 before he could provide the finishing touches.
