Æthelred 10 (Male)
Witness to West Saxon charters, mid 9thC; not Æthelred 16
m ix
Notes: There may have been several Æthelreds in mid ninth-century Wessex between whom it is now impossible to distinguish. Æthelred 16 is here identified as having attested charters between 839 and 868, but note Æthelred 10 who also witnesses a charter of 855 (S315). In is possible that one man concealed in these two entries became Ealdorman Æthelred 9 (perhaps of Kent) c.858. In 878 Æthelred 19, minister, appears in one charter; he may be the Ælred 1 who attests a Winchester charter of 877.
