Wilson 1918, p. 41, points out: 'This is intended to mark the date of the death of Aedwin of Deira, who was slain in the battle of Heathfield (or Hatfield) in 633. According to Bede (H.E., II, xx) the actual date was October 12. In later times, but perhaps not so early as the time when this entry was made, the king was regarded as a martyr, as having fallen in battle against the heathen. In some calendars his name appears on October 4.'
