Description |
Alfred 54 penetrated into the heartland of the kingdom [of England] and came up against Earl Godwine 51, who first welcomed him as a friend, but that same night turned into a traitor like Judas. For, although Godwine 51 had given him the kiss of peace and had had a meal with him, in the middle of the night he had him bound with his hands behind his back and sent with some of his followers to King Harold 5 in London. His other soldiers were either dispersed about the kingdom or shamefully slain. |
