(King of the Mercians, 716-757) : After Æthelbald 4 had said his nightly prayers and fallen asleep, he awoke to see his small dwelling shining with light and saw Guthlac 2. In response to the promise of Guthlac 2 that he would gain the sceptre of his kingdom, he asked for a sign.
