(King of the West Saxons, 685-688) : After being in exile, where he had been supported by Wilfrid 2, Cędwalla 1 gained the throne of the West Saxons. Having killed and overcome his enemies, he summoned Wilfrid 2 and made him chief of his counsellors, giving him innumerable estates and gifts. Cędwalla 1 protected his kingdom by the sword and by treaty.
