(King of the Northumbrians and successor of Ecgfrith 4, 686-705) : Aldfrith 1 received messages from Wilfrid 2 through the latter's messengers, Badwine 1 and Alfrith 1. Aldfrith 1 arranged for a day to meet them again. At the meeting Aldfrith 1 stated that he respected them and that they could ask for things that were necessary for themselves but that they were not to bother him more about Wilfrid 2. His predecessors, the kings and archbishop with their counsellors, had decided and afterwards he with the archbishop, who had been sent from the Apostolic See, with almost all the prelates had made their judgment. He declared he was not willing to change this.
