Description |
All the nobility of the realm was assembled to bless, anoint and consecrate Edgar 11. The king was led to the church, where all the people awaited him. After the consecration Dunstan 1 and Oswald 8 were raised up with Edgar 11 on his lofty throne. |

(Archbishop of Canterbury, 959-988) : He took the diadem from Edgar 11's head and began to intone the hymn of praise. He recited those prayers for the king which are found in pontifical service-books. After the anointing he gave Edgar 11 a ring; then he girded him with a sword and handed him the sceptre and the rod. Then he said mass and made it a day of celebration.
