Agent:
Alcuin 1
(Author, deacon and abbot of Tours, c.735-804) : Alcuin 1 expressed delight at receiving Æthelheard 13's words of greeting. He urged Æthelheard 13 to remember his predecessors, not to fear the swords of men, to recall the role of a bishop (which Alcuin 1 outlined), to guard against the ills described by Gildas 1 and to preach confidently. Alcuin 1 mentioned how disgraceful it was that Christians should lose what they had won as pagans, noting the misfortune that had affected some parts of the island [of Lindisfarne].
Recipient:
Æthelheard 13
(Archbishop of Canterbury, 792-805 (cons. 793))
