Agent:
Anonymi 2445
(Warriors of Cynewulf 4 who had been left behind in 786) : At daybreak it [sc. the death of Cynewulf 4] became known to his soldiers left behind (Anonymi 2445). Having marshalled a force, they set out with Osric 6 and Wigfrith 7. They found the prince (Cyneheard 3) in the hall where their lord (Cynewulf 4) lay dead with its doors locked against them. The followers of the king refused all [the offers of Cyneheard 3]; rather they sought to separate their relatives (Anonymi 2540) who were with the prince (Cyneheard 3). Anonymi 2445 declared that their relatives (Anonymi 2540) would remain unhurt if they left nor would vengeance be exacted against them for those who lay dead (Anonymi 2443) with the king (Cynewulf 4). Anonymi 2445 killed the prince (Cyneheard 3), and all his companions (Anonymi 2444) eventually lay dead before his eyes except one, Anonymous 915.
Recipient:
Cyneheard 3
(Ętheling; brother of King Sigeberht 4 of Wessex) : When Anonymi 2445 arrived at the hall, the prince (Cyneheard 3) sought a truce, promising them great things but wishing that the kingdom should be his.
