Description

King William, in the presence of his archbishops and all his bishops and justices, by the order of Pope Gregory VII and at the request of Bishop William of Durham, announces that he has taken Prior Ealdwine and all his successors and all monks serving St Cuthbert in the future into his protection, and that of his heirs, for ever, along with everything that either Bishop William, his successors, or other faithful men shall give. The writ contains details of the monks liberties and rights.
