Notes

*Bond 1878, p. 7, contemporary; Stevenson 1904, p. 290 n. 1, genuine, MS 1 in slightly later hand; Wallenberg, KPN, pp. 223-5; Ward 1934/1, on bounds; Stenton 1955, p. 50, cited; Brooks 1984, pp. 173-4, 361 n. 77, MS 1 written at the time of Plegmund's confirmation; Dumville 1987, p. 157 n. 52, doubtful that MS 1 should be assigned to Plegmund's pontificate; Keynes 1992, p. 71 nn. 77, 79; Smyth 1995, p. 375; Lapidge 1996, p. 453, passable latinity, perhaps showing effects of Alfred's reforms
