Description |
Cuthbert 1 put into the hearts of his brethren to take his bones and to put them in a light chest in the same place, but above the floor. Eadberht 3 agreed and told them to do that on the anniversary of his burial. When they opened the grave, they found his body to be intact and whole. |

Persons associated with this Event:
- Recipient:
Cuthbert 1
(Saint; bishop of Hexham, 684-685, and Lindisfarne, 685-687) : He looked as if he was still alive, and the joints of the limbs were flexible. Moreover, all his garments seemed to be perfectly new and wondrously bright.
- Participant:
Eadberht 3
(Bishop of Lindisfarne, 688?698) : He agreed on the brethren's suggestion to translate Cuthbert's body. At the time he was spending Lent in a place remote from the monastery and when they brought him part of the clothes that had unwrapped the holy body, he marvelled at the news, kissed the garments with great affection and added words that Bede reports in verse. He also told the brethren to put fresh garments around his body and use the light chest they had prepared.
