Discussion of the name

Acwulf is an Old English masculine name comprising the elements āc ‘oak, ship of oak’ and wulf ‘wolf’.

There is one entry in the PASE corpus for Acwulf 1, a catch-all for occurrences in DB.  There are also six entries for Aculf that should be referred to the head-form Acwulf, with Aculf 2 being a tenth-century land-holder in Durham, Aculf 3-5 representing moneyer(s) active 946-72 at an unspecified mint, Aculf 6 being a York moneyer active 952-4, and Aculf 1 corresponding to Acwulf 7 below.  Insley et al. (2007: 81) also notes occurrences in a place-name in a charter of 996 (S 887) and in the early eleventh-century section of the Durham Liber Vitae.
