Ælfhild is an Old English feminine name comprising the elements ælf ‘elf, sprite’ and hild ‘war, combat’.

The name Ælfhild occurs ten times in the PASE corpus, of which Ælfhild 1-9 occur between the mid-tenth and mid-eleventh centuries and Ælfhild 10 is a catch-all category for those appearing in DB; another Ælfhild was the subject of a quittance recorded in post-Conquest Exeter. Although a name with so few recorded occurrences could be regarded as rare, women are generally under-reported in pre-Conquest sources and the elements ælf and hild are common in the formation of other OE personal names, so that ‘unusual’ is a better assessment than ‘rare’.
