Discussion of the name

Alfrith is probably a development of the Old English masculine name Æthelfrith, but a derivation from the names *Ælffrith, Ealdfrith or Ealhfrith is also formally possible; although the first element is therefore uncertain, the second is from OE frið ‘peace, security’ (von Feilitzen 1937: 142, 144, 183).

There are three entries for Alfrith in the PASE corpus, of which Alfrith 1 and Alfrith 2 occur before the mid-tenth century and Alfrith 3 is a catch-all for occurrences in DB.  There are also thirty-nine entries for Æthelfrith, one for Ealdfrith and eight for Ealhfrith; there are none for Ælffrith.
