Discussion of the name
Balki is an Old Norse masculine name, probably originating as a byname and perhaps derived from a word cognate with Modern Norwegian balk ‘confusion’ (Fellows Jensen 1968: 46).The only entry in the PASE corpus is for Balki 1, a catch-all category for occurrences of this name in DB. This suggests that the name was extremely rare in pre-Conquest England.
