Discussion of the name
Brorda is an Old English masculine name that probably developed from a byname and, despite the impression given by the DB forms (which may have been confused with Latin bord(arius); see Rumble 1983: 32,34-35 Notes), is derived from brord ‘prick, point’ rather than bord ‘board, plank, shield’ (von Feilitzen 1937: 208; Tengvik 1938: 393; cf. Redin 1919: 45, 73).There are five entries for Brorda in the PASE corpus, of which Brorda 1-4 pre-date 800 and Brorda 5 is a catch-all for occurrences in DB.
