Discussion of the name
Dagobert is a Continental Germanic masculine name comprising the elements tac ‘day’ and beraht ‘light, bright’ (Forssner 1916: 59).There are three entries in the PASE corpus for Dagobert, all referring to Frankish kings of the seventh or eighth century; there is also an entry for Dægberht 1 (a ninth-century abbot) and three for Dægbeorht (all ninth-century moneyers) that could represent the name Dagobert (Insley 2003: 392).
