Discussion of the name

Burgnoth is a masculine OE name formed from the common elements burg (‘fortification’) and nōð (‘bold’). The name is recorded only occasionally, the five instances currently in PASE clustering in the mid ninth century as charter witnesses in Kent in 844 and 858 (Burgnoth 1–2) and moneyers in Canterbury and London within the period 852–80 (Burgnoth 4–6) in a way which suggests that only one person may be involved. The only example in DB was also in Kent.
