Discussion of the name
Snot is an Old English masculine name probably derived from an OE *snot ‘nose, snout’ related to gesnot ‘mucus’.The only entry in the PASE corpus is for Snot 1, a catch-all category for occurrences in of this name in DB. Further evidence for its use in pre-Conquest England comes from the place-names Nottingham and Sneinton (Watts 2004: 445, 557).
