Discussion of the name
Sæwig is an Old English masculine name comprising the elements sæ ‘sea, expanse of water’ and wīg ‘strife, war, valour’.The only entry in the PASE corpus is for Sæwig 1, a catch-all category for occurrences in DB, but there are several post-Conquest instances of the name (von Feilitzen 1937: 354).
