Discussion of the name
Sylvi is an Old Danish masculine name perhaps derived from sylf ‘silver’; the DB form could also represent Old Swedish Siælve but this is less likely than an Old Danish name in an English context, while Old Norse Solve would not give rise to the DB form (von Feilitzen 1937: 382; contra Björkman 1910: 116; cf. Fellows Jensen 1968: 283).There are no pre-Domesday occurrences of this name in the PASE corpus.
