Discussion of the name
Maino is a Continental Germanic masculine name that developed as a hypocoristic form of a name with magan ‘strength, power’ as first element; it is theoretically possible, but unlikely, that some of the names discussed under Old English Manna in fact represent CG Maino (Forssner 1916: 183).The only directly related entry in the PASE corpus is Main 1, a charter-witness in 1087x1100.
