Discussion of the name

Leofmann is an Old English masculine name comprising the elements lēof ‘dear’ and mann ‘person, man’.  Formally it is possible that the DB forms and some of those for the moneyers noted below represent an OE Leodmann; but because such a compound is not on record except for the DB and IE forms Le(o)dman(n)us (which could instead represent the Continental Germanic name Liudman) the head-form Leofmann is adopted here (cf. von Feilitzen 1937: 309-10, 313).
