Discussion of the name

Leodmann is an Old English masculine name comprising the seemingly tautologous elements lēod ‘man’ and mann ‘person, man’. Although not otherwise recorded this name is the best interpretation of the IE forms and is preferred for the DB form, although the latter could instead represent the cognate Continental Germanic name Liudman; formally it is also possible that the DB form Leman recorded for Leofmann 15 could instead be Leodmann (cf. von Feilitzen 1937: 309-10, 313).

There are no pre-Domesday occurrences of this name in the PASE corpus.
