Discussion of the name

Holmger is an Old Danish or Old Swedish masculine name comprising the elements hulm ‘island’ and ger ‘spear’; the Old Norse form Hólmgeirr is unlikely because names in Holm- are generally late borrowings (von Feilitzen 1937: 292; Adigard des Gautries 1954: 110; Fellows Jensen 1968: 143).

There are no pre-Domesday occurrences of this name in the PASE corpus.
