Discussion of the name

Altei is the DB form of an as-yet unidentified name.  The three mostly likely explanations are that it is a misspelling (with ‘t’ for ‘f’) of the very common Old English masculine name Ælfheah (von Feilitzen 1937: 153), or that it represents an otherwise unrecorded OE name *Ealdheah, or that it should be associated with the equally obscure DB form Altet occurring once in Kent.  No certainty is possible, however, and therefore the DB form Altei is retained as the head-form here.

The only entry in the PASE corpus is for Altei 1, a catch-all category for occurrences in DB; there are also 68 entries for Ælfheah, none for *Ealdheah and one for the DB form Altet.
