Discussion of the name
Carlman is probably a Continental Germanic masculine name derived ultimately from a common Germanic appellative meaning ‘free-man’, although a late Old English origin cannot entirely be ruled out (Forsnner 1916: 54; von Feilitzen 1937: 214; cf. Fellows Jensen 1968: 162; Insley 2003: 375).Bibliography
