Discussion of the name

Ceolweald is an Old English masculine name comprising the elements cēol ‘keel, ship’ and weald ‘power, dominion; ruler’ (von Feilitzen 1937: 214).

The only entries in the PASE corpus are for Ceolwald [recte Ceolweald] 1, supposedly the grandfather of the West Saxon king Ine 1; Ceolwald [recte Ceolweald] 2, minister and witness to a Somerset charter of 961 (S 692); and Ceolweald 1 [recte Ceolweald 3], a catch-all for occurrences in DB.
