Discussion of the name

The name Chenias does not appear to be Old English; it may be an Old Welsh name *Cenias or *Cinias comprising the elements con ‘high’ and ias ‘boiling, fervour’ (von Feilitzen 1937: 214-15).

There are no pre-Domesday occurrences of this name in the PASE corpus, so it is clear that the name Chenias was, at the very least, extremely rare.
