Cwenthryth is a feminine OE name formed from the elements cwēn (‘woman, wife, princess, queen’) and ðryð (‘strength, glory’). The only bearer of the name recorded outside DB is the Mercian princess, daughter of King Cenwulf (Cenwulf 3), who became a famous abbess in Kent in the earlier ninth century (Cwenthryth 1).Bibliography
