Discussion of the name
Fridebert is a Continental Germanic masculine name comprising the elements fridu ‘peace’ and beraht ‘light, bright’, although linguistic or scribal ambiguities mean that some forms for Fridebert and Fridebern are confused in DB; it is also formally possible but unlikely that some forms represent the Old English name Frithubeorht, not apparently otherwise recorded after the early tenth century (von Feiltizen 1937: 254; Dodgson 1985: 43).The only entry in the PASE corpus is for Fridebert 1, a catch-all for occurrences in DB.
