Discussion of the name

Genust can hardly be anything other than a Welsh name, but it is not clear what name the DB spellings Genust and Genut represent. Tentative suggestions have included a name ending in –ust, from Primitive Celtic gustus ‘choice’ (von Feilitzen 1937: 259), and the name Cwnws (Thornton 2007: 152).

It does not otherwise occur among the names recorded in PASE. Phillimore and Alecto both render it Genust.
