Discussion of the name

Gethne can hardly be other than Welsh, and may represent the name which appears in other early medieval sources spelled Guithno, Gueithgno, and Guitneu; the second element is the personal name suffix –(g)nou ‘son’ (von Feilitzen 1937: 260, 329).

There is no other person of this name recorded in PASE; Phillimore and Alecto both use the Domesday spelling Gethne.
