Discussion of the name

Liut is an Old Danish or Old Swedish masculine name related to Old Norse ljótr, probably a byname meaning ‘ugly’ although a word meaning ‘light’ is also possible (Fellows Jensen 1968: lxxxi, 190, 350).

There are two entries in the PASE corpus that seem to represent forms of this name: Leot 1 attested a tenth-century charter as dux, and Leod 3 is a catch-all category for occurrences of this name in DB.
