Discussion of the name

Rauelin is the DB form of an uncertain name, although it seems to be masculine and was not Old English.  The first element resembles spellings for Old Norse hrafn ‘raven’, with the loss of final ‘n’ evidenced in other DB forms; but more likely is a diminutive based on the cognate Continental Germanic word hraben or on the Old French name Rabel (Björkman 1910: 109-10; Forssner 1916: 205; von Feilitzen 1937: 347).

There are no pre-Domesday occurrences of this name in the PASE corpus.
