Discussion of the name
Ruillic is probably, as von Feilitzen noted (1937: 350), a Welsh name with the diminutive suffix –ic. Although the same suffix was used in forming OE names it seems to have been very rare (Redin 1919: 149–52), and the first element of the name can hardly be OE anyway. A comparable Welsh name might be Rhuol, which appears once in the Welsh genealogies (Bartrum 1974: p. 78).Bibliography
