Discussion of the name

Sæmann is a masculine Old English name formed from the common elements (‘sea’) and mann (‘man’) and identical in form with the common noun meaning ‘seaman’ or ‘pirate’. The second element is a feature of later Old English name-giving, and the handful of pre-Conquest examples of the name all date from after 1000 (Sæmann 1–3).
