Discussion of the name
Soting is an otherwise unrecorded masculine name of uncertain derivation. If it is Old English, then it could be from OE sōt ‘soot’ or else an OE sōt or sott ‘foolish, dull’ borrowed from Old French or Latin; if it is Old Norse, then it could be from the ON name Sóti (von Feilitzen 1937: 369).Bibliography
