Discussion of the name

The name is an OE masculine name, formed from the elements wynn ‘joy’ and gēat, from the folk-name Gēatas (von Feilitzen 1937: 428). Although both elements were very widely employed in forming names, the single DB instance is the only Wyngeat on record.
