Discussion of the name
It is improbable that the name spelt Frauuin(us) and Frawinus in DB and its satellites can represent the Old English names Frēawine or Frēowine but the spellings are appropriate for the Continental Germanic name Frawin, of uncertain derivation (von Feilitzen 1937: 60, 63-4, 252-3); perhaps this name had been adopted into English usage by the time of the Conquest. There are no pre-Domesday occurrences of this name in the PASE corpus.
