Discussion of the name

Godmund is a masculine OE name formed from the elements the elements god (good) and mund (protector, guardian). The name Godmund is not known in sources other than Domesday Book, and von Feilitzen listed occurrences of this name under ‘OE Guðmund’. However, since Godmund is a plausible Old English name, and since there are prosopographical grounds for thinking that the occurrences of Godmund(us) represent different individuals from landholders named Gudmundus and Guthmundus, they are treated separately here.
