Discussion of the name

Heca is an Old English masculine name of uncertain derivation but is perhaps related to either hōc ‘hook’ or hēccan ‘kid’.

There are only three entries for Heca in the PASE corpus, all from the eleventh century: Heca 1 was the bishop of Selsey 1047-57; Heca 2 was the father of Hunwine 3 (who witnessed a Devon charter in c.1045); and Heca 3 is a catch-all category for occurrences of this name in DB. With so few recorded instances, the name should be regarded as extremely rare.
