Discussion of the name

Leofwaru is a feminine OE name formed from the elements lēof (‘dear’) and waru (‘shelter, protection’). The only persons of this name currently recorded in PASE are two women mentioned in wills of 988 and the early eleventh century (Leofwaru 1; Leofwaru 2 + Leofwaru 3). Women’s names are under-recorded, and only two known instances does not necessarily mean that Leofwaru was a rare name.
