Discussion of the name

Tova-Hild is an Old Danish feminine compound signifying ‘Hild daughter of Tovi’; an anglicized Old Danish head-form is used here because of the Essex and East Anglian contexts of the DB instances, although von Feilitzen (1937: 384) preferred an Old Norse form *Tófa-Hildr.

There are no pre-Domesday occurrences of this name in the PASE corpus.
