The fact that Chalfield is located a long way from the estates of Waltheof 8 in Warwickshire, and from those of Earl Waltheof in the east Midlands and Yorkshire, commends the view that Waltheof ‘of Chalfield’ was a different person. So too does the fact that this is the only estate attributed to a person named Waltheof which Ernulf de Hesdin held in 1086.Bibliography
