It is possible that Ordgar 16 of Childerditch was identical with Ordgar 14, the sheriff of Cambridgeshire, since the latter is attributed three estates in north-west Essex, and was wealthy enough to hold land elsewhere in the shire. However, the fact that this estate passed to a different successor and lay 30 miles south of the nearest estate attributed to Ordgar 14 makes it more likely that they were different individuals.
