Profile

The fact that these three estates lay in close proxity to one another, at some distance to other estates attributed to people called Ordgar, passed to a different successor, and were all shared with other landholders TRE commends this identification. Harlestone was held jointly by Ordgar and Leofric; Farthingstone by Ordgar, Theodgar and Godric; and Dodford by Ordgar, Ælfric, and Leofric. Leofric was a common name, but even so the fact that it recurs twice in this group strengthens the identification. This group of estates lay too far from the nearest estates attributed to Ordgar 14 (about 45 miles) and Ordgar 20 (about 39 miles) to make identification with them plausible. They also passed to different successors. It is conceivable but unlikely that Ordgar 19 was identical with Ordgar 24.
