Bibliography
Mærwynn 6 had one of the smallest of at least ten TRE holdings in Biddenham, an area of land enclosed by a loop of the River Ouse to the west of Bedford. Nevertheless, DB records that she ‘could sell her land to whom she wished’, indicating that she had power of alienation and was not a dependent tenant.
It is conceivable that Mærwynn 6 could be the same woman as Mærwynn 3, who held a moderate estate in north-west Essex TRE 38 miles away; but the very small size of Mærwynn 6’s estate renders this highly unlikely.
